Optimising Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Apheresis with Haematology Analyser
Speaker
Dr Chong Siew Lian is currently a Haematology Resident at Hospital Ampang, Selangor, Malaysia. She received her MD degree from the Moscow Medical Academy. Her achievement includes being the recipient of the International Society of Laboratory Haematology (ISLH) Trainee Award of 2021. Her main research interest is in the molecular genetics of leukaemias.
Abstract of Lecture:
Haematopoietic stem cell transplantation is a commonly used treatment for haematological malignancies. The haematopoietic stem cells may be harvested from the bone marrow or peripheral blood through the process of aphaeresis. In addition to not requiring general anaesthesia, Peripheral Blood Stem Cell (PBSC) harvest has the advantage of faster engraftment, especially of platelets and neutrophils. Enumeration of stem cells is essential to ensure the success of PBSC harvest. The fully automated Haematopoietic Stem Cell (HPC) count on the Sysmex XN haematology analyser (XN-HPC) revealed it is a reliable alternative to the gold standard flow cytometric CD34+ stem cell count. In this webinar, Dr Chong Siew Lian will share her experience and findings on the application and utility of XN-HPC for the management of PBSC harvest in Ampang Hospital, Malaysia.
