Lecture Objectives
Both eGFR and urine albumin are the common laboratory biomarkers used in chronic kidney disease evaluation. However, it is not certain whether the laboratories are following the recommendations of the ‘KDIGO 2012 Clinical Practice Guideline for the Evaluation and Management of Chronic Kidney Disease’ in the measurement and reporting of serum creatinine, eGFR and urine albumin. The first lecture of webinar will highlight the recommendations for the laboratory reporting of eGFR and urine albumin to bridge the gap of laboratory with the clinical practice guideline.
Anaemia is one of the most common complication that affects a majority of individuals with end stage renal disease. The prevalence of anaemia increases across the advancing stages of CKD. Management of anaemia in end stage renal disease could be achieved with close monitoring of iron status and effective treatment of iron deficiency. However, the traditional biomarkers used to detect iron deficiency in CKD often encounter challenges result to persistent challenges in the detection and monitoring of IDA in these patients due to underlying inflammation. The second lecture of this webinar will discuss the experience in iron deficiency anaemia management in end stage renal disease patient.
