Sepsis remains a significant cause of mortality and morbidity in intensive care units (ICUs) worldwide, posing considerable challenges in diagnosis and management due to the limitations in sensitivity and specificity of current diagnostic tests, prolonged turnaround times, and the high cost of traditional sepsis markers. Blood cell parameters, which are readily accessible, quick to obtain, and cost effective, offer a valuable tool for identifying and monitoring a wide range of diseases. The extended inflammatory parameters (EIPs) from haematology analysers, specifically from Sysmex, can predict sepsis by detecting the body’s immune response to an insult. Identifying trends in these parameters within specific sepsis groups can aid in early diagnosis and prompt patient intervention, leading to better outcomes. Our invited speaker, Prof. Dr. Rosline Hassan from Universiti Sains Malaysia, will share her expert insights into the application of extended white blood cell parameters in guiding the management of sepsis.
